La Crone Residence

The reverse U-shaped plot is located on the edge of the Strahov Hill with views of Prague and the horizon crowned with the towers of the St Vitus Cathedral. Eight three-storey multi-family villas with the same basic volume contain 76 flats sized from studio to 4-bedroom units. The parking garage for residents is in the basement. Storeys stepping back cut away from the block mould prisms and cubes of these houses decomposing them by terraces, loggias, and balconies. Windows and doors fit in clear-cut volumes.  Each house is taken individually; facades built on asymmetric modern art compositions of the first half of the 20th century. Glazed connecting blocks interconnect some houses. There will be three types of spaces in the compound: public (a lateral park as a connecting link for pedestrians), semi-public (local communal space) and private (gardens). The project is extensively landscaped. An important aspect was the search for an optimal scale due to the developed stabilised neighbourhood. The new residence responds to the current situation; by its operation and character it evens important relations and processes belonging to this part of the city. Built-in materials enhance the overall architectural concept. Aside from glass in windows, thin plaster in broken white to light grey with a deeper effect of cast shades is complemented by timber cladding to the accentuated areas.
